a Daylighting technique where natural light enters through an opening in the top floor of a building; it provides the most uniform distribution of light across the workplane and better visual comfort than Sidelighting. Toplighting may be provided by skylights, clerestory windows, light boxes, sawtooth roof monitors, etc.
