- Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, a class of chemical compounds found in oil and tar and also formed during the incomplete burning of coal, oil, gas, wood, garbage, tobacco, fat, or other organic substances. These compounds are considered to be organic pollutants; some are known or suspected carcinogens and linked to other health problems.
